WHAT IS SAAS? Why software as a service is so popular
By Karina Collis, December 2020
SaaS - that's the abbreviation from Software as a service. It's a cloud-based service in which a program creator supplies applications and makes them convenient to clients over the internet. A customer can use such services with a browser or API. All you need to work with SaaS is a fine internet connection and subscription.
It's a very convenient way to get a software because a customer doesn't need to buy programs on disks and may not be afraid about the data when some problems with the computer take place. The client can test the program during one month or more for free or for symbolic payment. It's easy to change any software if you want a different one and you don't need to change all the operational systems of your computers.
The most popular example of SaaS is the Google Docs service, which is free. All you need to use this service is a Google account. Also for sales outsourcing there are many options.
SaaS Benefits: Why Business uses SaaS
Every year Software as a service is more and more popular. It's more convenient for clients because for a subscription they need only a few minutes. It's more convenient for software creators because the processes are more automatic and they need to sell it only once and cashflows from the sale will continue to flow . It's more convenient for business because the buying of any software takes few time and not so much money (because the cost is typically spread over a year).
Software vendor gives a customer access to a single copy of program which the provider produced especially for the distribution. The source code for the program is identical for all the customers. SaaS creators can integrate some softwares if it's relevant for customers.
What are the reasons that so many businesses use SaaS and how can you benefit from it?
You can run any software with any internet browser
It doesn't matter which operating system the client uses. All he/she needs to run a software is the account, so it runs through any comfortable internet browser.
It gives a customer the ability to have access to the software from any gadget. Don't worry about your data if you have problems with your computer because all the data is always saved in cloud.
Automatic updates
When the application is renewed or new functionalities are added all the clients have these renewals and functions because the source code for the program is the same for all the clients. So, the provider updates the software centrally without any interruption to the work of the customer.
The market of SaaS is wide
For the software creators SaaS is the ability to supply their services to the majority of the market. It was the problem before when the creators could supply their production only for very limited market segment.
For the subscribers of softwares it's the ability to choose the most convenient services for their companies. They have access to services which can do their production better or cheaper, improve their productivity and give the opportunity to grow their business.
The payment system is very flexible and comfortable
When the softwares were on disks or disquettes and the operating system on the computer was matter, they were very expensive and the customer needed to buy them at once. If the computer with this system failed, the customer needed to buy not only a new computer, but also reinstall a new software, restore databases etc. It demanded a lot of financial investitions and time spent.
Now any customer can choose the most comfortable program and the most comfortable service package. A client can test it for free or for a monthly fee and then decide to buy the subscribtion for a longer period or not to buy it at all.
Subscribing takes only a few minutes and the customer doesn't need to visit the vendor's office. So, it's cheaper for both the client and the creator.
