To get what you want, you need to ask for what you want
BUT THERE IS JUST ONE PROBLEM...
A good girl doesn't ask. She is grateful for what she's given.
How often should you have negotiated, but you didn't?
If a building becomes architecture, then it is art
Women underestimate their skills and overestimate risks
WHY WOMEN FAIL TO NEGOTIATE?
Women are afraid to ask
Women describe negotiations as "scary" and "going to the dentist" while men associate them with "fun" and "winning a game"
Women are satified with less
Many women fail to recognise opportunities to negotiate — about their position, about their salary and the resources to become successful in their roles
Women don't know how to negotiate
The majority of women admit that they don't t know what to say or don't have enough confidence to say it
Women are afraid of being penalised
Women are afraid to ruin relationships, not be seen as a team player and leave a bad impression if they choose to negotiate
“
I waited for five years to ask for career promotion. I feel like I was stealing time from myself"
Common misconceptions about negotiation
Negotiation is competitive
Negotiation involves conflict
A good negotiator is a poker player
You need to be aggressive to win
IN REALITY, WOMEN ARE EXCELLENT NEGOTIATORS. WE ARE ALL GOOD AT:
•Empathy •Effective communication •Listening •Rapport Building •Problem Solving •Decision Making •Dealing with Difficult Situations
IN ALL THESE SKILLS WOMEN PERFORM BETTER THAN MEN, BUT MOST WOMEN DON'T USE THEM FOR NEGOTIATION
Did you know?
Only 7% of women negotiate their job offer versus 57% of men
HOWEVER
if women decide to negotiate for more money generally they succeed in improving the initial offer.
“
I've been giving extra hours every day to deliver the best results but I received no recognition for my hard work"
Break the "accumulated disadvantage" cycle
On average, women don't negotiate their first job offer or further promotions.
Men are often awarded a higher performance evaluation which in turn leads to a large majority of them taking the highest-ranking positions.
When women adopt men's negotiation styles to compete, it often ends with negative outcomes and women being labelled as aggressive and pushy. Does this sound familiar?
The most shocking news is that the gender pay gap is the largest among top executives. The pay gap widens as women progress in their career, with women at the executive level making ashocking $0.69 to every dollar a man makes.
The World Economic Forum reported that it will take 202 years to close the gap.
Can you wait another 202 years to be paid what you deserve?
